AbouT
The PROJECT

Hello, I'm Dominica Rane!

I am the founder of The Rane Riding Project, which was created to give visibility to the Black equine community in Minnesota. It is inspired by my own experiences volunteering with rehabilitation centers, assisted therapy non-profits, and farm-stay work exchange programs. I am a 25-year-old Minneapolis resident and I plan to continue working with horses in a way that incorporates travel and social justice for the rest of my life.

As a 2022 recipient of the Innovator’s Grant through the Women’s Foundation of Minnesota, I have spent the last year connecting with individuals that have recognized the lack of accessibility, diversity, and inclusivity within the horse world. This project has allowed me to network, conduct interviews that highlight Black folks within the industry, and finally, have the chance to ride. This is the culmination of my work with horses. I hope that The Rane Riding Project will grow, encourage others to ride, and empower existing Black riders from all over the world to share their stories to resurrect the Black cowboy culture that was once prevalent.

The Rane Riding Project is currently searching for grants and additional funding. The majority of my work with horses has been paid for with my own savings. Anything is appreciated!
